Our Story…

Kerry Anne:

I always knew I’d one day own my own business.

I briefly considered the possibility of starting a marketing business (my education and professional background was in marketing) but I just wasn’t sure. Soon after the idea came about I began noticing just how many smart, capable business owners appeared to be struggling with their marketing; each just as frustrated as the next with the process. I saw how they could benefit from a personable marketing consultant with a jargon-free, practical and affordable approach to marketing.

Maybe this really was a great place to start my journey as an entrepreneur…

I launched Insight Marketing in 2009. I vividly remember how I felt the day I registered the business name, put $100 into a new bank account and then launched a website.

I worked away developing marketing plans for a variety of businesses and began being asked for strategic plans also. I would send these clients to other firms, remaining focused on marketing plans. After a while, that seemed just silly!

What I decided I really wanted was a partner to take on this side of the business.

Dawn:

To say my career has not taken a direct path is an understatement.

While attending university for my English degree I really wondered what will I “be”. Having always enjoyed working with people and helping them learn, I figured a teaching degree would be a natural fit. Little did I know that I would never set foot in a classroom again.

My career has been varied but consistent, working first for the University of Prince Edward Island for four years and then joining the Canadian Cancer Society, PEI Division in 2000 as a volunteer and then staff member in 2002.

My over eight years with the Canadian Cancer Society was some of the most rewarding and educational of my life. As the Executive Director of a non-profit I essentially was managing a small business. I began to realize I loved building and growing something . .. maybe my own business.

And after 8 years I was looking for a new challenge.

As I said to Kerry Anne during one of our excited and animated conversations, I want a business “where I can help people” . . . and so it began.

Our Story:

One blustery winter evening, 2 women attended the same party.

Have you ever met someone and clicked instantly? That’s what happened when Kerry Anne MacDougall met Dawn Binns. To stand back and watch their animated and excitable conversation, as their husbands did that very night, can only be described fascinating.

Both having careers in the same town helped the conversation, and pretty soon they were talking business, sharing experiences and out and out ignoring the other party guests!

As months went by it became apparent the two would do business together. Dawn, the ambitious Executive Director of a reputable non-profit organization, contemplating a career change. Kerry Anne, the energetic entrepreneur growing a successful marketing business, contemplating a partner.

Insight Marketing:

Today, we’re excited to say we’re business partners!

We laugh, learn, teach, plan, implement and together help a variety of businesses and organizations realize their vision and achieve their goals.

Amazing how things work out.

Dawn, I am not surprised to see you taking on a new venture. I know you have the skills. They were quite obvious during your ACE days at UPEI.
Maybe the Autism Society will hire you someday to develop a comprehensive plan for people with autism. There sure is a need for a master plan.
I don’t know Kery Ann but she seems like quite a lifewire. I hope you two get some work done(just kidding).
Congratulations and the best of luck.

Hi John, So nice of you to respond and share the kind words. It is exciting to take on a new venture, I still draw upon so much that I learned during my 4 years at the ACE Program. I would love to work with the Autism Society some day; helping individuals and families is still a passion.

Kerry Anne is a very smart and fun partner – we have fun and work hard both; that’s how work should be I believe.

Take care, say hello to Jeremy and again thank you for the kind words.
